Zombification
I took a picture of myself and made an outline in my sketchbook to begin a good plan for my zombie portrait. I wanted a half human face, and half decayed with skull showing; the more morbid the better. I referenced my facial muscle sketch multiple times to be sure I had an accurate spot for each muscle and what not. I finished my face, but I figured I did not want a floating head for my final piece. I started shading in a neck in my portrait sketch, but I wondered about the anatomy in the neck and I looked up neck muscular structures and got to work.

I wanted to try a drawing for my new piece, and I'm very interested in the muscle in the face and Da Vinci's sketches of the human face. So I tried drawing a human face muscle sketch to give me an idea of where everything is in the human face. I also do enjoy pop culture, which will not be a cultural connection, and I thought of possibly making a self portrait of me as a zombie. So I also did look up pictures of the Hollywood zombie and TV show zombies. This gave me an excellent start to where I wanted to begin with this portrait drawing.

Since my main focus for the neck sketch was obviously the neck muscles, I focused on depth and accuracy as to where each muscle and even vein was. I did include some shoulder muscle, but that was only to guide me for correct proportions. I also drew a light sketch for a guide for the collar bone also for a guide. Also the sketch shows a head looking up, which will show more of the muscular structure. I'm not sure if I want to apply this neck structure to my final drawing yet, but I think its still good to have a general idea of the anatomy of a human face and neck if I'm going to tear it apart.
